Driven by an idealistic determination not to ‘sell out’ and settle down like his peers, Nick doggedly pursues his dream. He lives hand to mouth for months, relying on the kindness of strangers at every port along the way. When he sinks too deep into debt, he invites the world to experience his dream through a blog that will help fund his voyage. The generosity of people wanting him to succeed is overwhelming. Yet when Nick’s dream becomes their dream, it adds pressures and forces him to reconsider whose dream is it that he’s pursuing. When sailing alone, Nick keeps a video log and over the years Jack joins him around the world including a road trip across the U.S over a cold winter. In his final leg home, an exhausted Nick voyages through the Pacific, experiencing love, loss, and even a tsunami.
As he finally reaches his home shore Australia, there is only one person waiting and Nick experiences a curious kind of closure.
